As you can imagine 2020 has been challenging! As we approach Vivienne's 7th birthday and the 4th anniversary of her death, we are even more dedicated to continuing her legacy with some important projects.
Thanks to all our dedicated donors and volunteers, we have done some amazing things in Vivienne's memory, including: completing Vivie's Playground, providing the SUDC Foundation a $50,000 gift as lead sponsor of the annual family retreat and funding weekend meals for 25 families in need for the 2019/20 school year. Our next initiatives are even more important as they further VJF’s missions of raising awareness of Sudden Unexplained Death in Childhood within the medical community and supporting the families struck by this unthinkable tragedy. Specifically, VJF wants to sponsor:
$5000: The gift of the new book “Unexplained Pediatric Deaths” to every Coroner and Medical Examiner in Minnesota. This book offers the FIRST national consensus guidelines to fill crucial needs to help identify why these deaths occur and how to support families after these tragedies happen (more info here), and
$15,000: A groundbreaking research project through the SUDC Foundation which will examine grief responses and coping strategies of families affected by the sudden and unexpected death of a child. The study, entitled “Coping Mechanisms, Grief Responses and Experiences with Professionals Following the Sudden Unexpected Death of a Child”, also examines the experiences primary caregivers had with the professionals involved following the death of the child. This study will fill a glaring gap in current bereavement research, which until now has only focused on parents who have lost an infant or child under the age of one. The study will examine the data collected to provide evidence-based recommendations for medical professionals to best support families after the sudden and unexpected death of their child. “Coping Mechanisms, Grief Responses and Experiences with Professionals Following the Sudden Unexpected Death of a Child” was approved by the Institutional Review Board of Integreview, an independent institutional review board dedicated to providing unsurpassed ethical review services for research conducted in the United States.
But with no gala or in person fundraising in 2020, WE NEED YOUR GENEROUS SUPPORT TO MAKE THIS HAPPEN!!
The first 60 donors who donate $100 or more will receive a beautiful Choose Joy ornament as a Thank You Gift!
