In honor of Vivie’s kindergarten year Vivienne’s Joy Foundation will be funding the weekend food program at Ellie’s (Vivie's older sister) public elementary school in St Paul, MN. This program is facilitated through another nonprofit, The Sheridan Story, which focuses on the weekend food gap, when children aren’t able to receive free and reduced meal programs at school. They provide 4-5 pounds of substantive, nutritious food directly to the children at the end of each school week in their backpacks for them to take home. The children and families receive fruits, vegetables, proteins, grain bases (rice, pasta, or oatmeal), and soups/entrées. They also have options tailored towards specific cultural diets: Hispanic/Latino/a and East African/Somali as well as an option that is designed to best serve children in more mobile situations that provides ready-to-eat or minimal-prep food items that also have nutritional value.
We will be providing weekend meals for 25 students/families for the entire school year. The total cost for this program for the school year is $5375 for 25 students, or $215 per student or $6 for each student per week. Please help us remember Vivie and help these students who would go hungry over the weekends without this help.
